Integrating the use of the ePIC into the application itself is the easiest way of making use of the ePIC to control access to a web application.
Access control is distributed in the form of a Java Applet which is inserted into the login procedure. When the user connects his ePIC, the applet recognises it and establishes a secure connection with the national security authority (Police) to check its validity (not revoked on account of robbery, loss, or for any other reason). The applet then informs the application of the status of validity and passes the ID number. Finally, the application itself determines the rights of the user, conceding or refusing access.
